THE WPSL WELCOMES UFA GUNNERS AS 2024 EXPANSION
ATLANTA (Feb. 5, 2024) – The Women’s Premier Soccer League confirmed today the inclusion of UFA Gunners in its 2024 Roster of Teams. With the announcement, the League strengthens its footprint in the Atlanta metro.
“We are excited to be in the WPSL,” Iggy Moleka, UFA Gunners executive director, said.
“We are committed to making sure that we remain a part of our current and former players' soccer journey, and the WPSL platform allows our players to stay competitive and be prepared for their college preseason.”
The United Futbol Academy was founded in 2010 with a mission to provide soccer players of all ages with the appropriate level of play and training in a supportive environment where skills for soccer are developed alongside skills for life.
Since 2016, UFA has seen over 30 players called to the U.S. Youth Soccer National Training Centers. Additionally, six more UFA players were called to GNT Talent ID Camp, the U17 Women’s National Team Virtual Camps, and represented their countries of Jamaica and Thailand at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.
For the 2024 season, the Gunners will compete alongside eight other teams from Atlanta, Nashville, Knoxville, Chattanooga, and Birmingham in the Southeast Conference of the WPSL’s South Region.
Schedules will be unveiled from the League office in March.
The WPSL returns for its 26th season of play as the longest-active women’s soccer league in the United States. Boasting more than 140 clubs nationwide while occupying 32 states coast-to-coast, the WPSL solidifies itself as the largest women’s soccer league in the world. Team rosters feature elite collegiate, post-collegiate, international, and standout prep student-athletes. Many of the United States’ most accomplished women’s national team players have played in the WPSL since its inception in 1998, including household names such as Alex Morgan, Megan Rapinoe, Abby Wambach, and Brandi Chastain.
